Jim Burba and Bob HayesOut Magazine Takes Note: BHN Events and Burba/Hayes Surpass US$10 Million in Charitable Donations

Costa Mesa, Ca (May 15, 2013): Jim Burba and Bob Hayes, of Orange County-based Burba Hotel Network (BHN) were included in the list of “15 Power Couples You Should Know” by the editors of Out Magazine (read the article here). The article also mentions such LGBT luminaries as actor Neil Patrick Harris and his partner, actor David Burtka; designer Tom Ford with his partner, magazine editor Tom Buckley; musician/singer/songwriter, Elton John and producer, David Furnish; and comedian, Ellen DeGeneres and her partner, actor Portia de Rossi

Out Magazine included a photo and caption which says of Burba and Hayes: “It’s easy to focus on celebrity and forget about the people behind the scenes with successful businesses who manage to make it work—both professionally and romantically. This entrepreneurial duo (who have been together for 23 years) founded Burba Hotel Network, which develops and produces conferences for the hotel and tourism investment community. Since 2000, their events have attracted nearly 80,000 international delegates in 22 countries. See, it pays to learn to live and love together.”

Additionally, Costa Mesa-based BHN and its events, has achieved another milestone of donating over US$10million for humanitarian aid, scholarship, research, and educational product development for the hotel industry.

For the LGBT community, Burba and Hayes have donated to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and to Palm Springs’ Desert AIDS Project (DAP).  At the latter, they most recently sponsored the 2013 “Arts & Activism Award” for entertainer Lorna Luft. They are active members of the former, donating not just money and time, but also opening their homes for fundraising events. HRC, founded in 1980, is the largest civil rights organization advocating on behalf of LGBT Americans, mobilizes grassroots actions in diverse communities, invests strategically to elect fair-minded individuals to office,  and educates the public about LGBT issues.

Over the past decade, the largest beneficiary has been the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation. Most recently, BHN became a sponsor of the International Tourism Partnership (ITP) program called Youth Career Initiative (YCI), which launched its efforts in India in 2012.  The program places disadvantaged young people in hotel jobs so they may learn life and work skills.  By the end of November 2012, the first 35 young people graduated from the program with job offers in hand.

BHN has also contributed to organizations in the geographic areas served by the events BHN produces such as the American Red Cross for international relief efforts; Centro Fox, a foundation/organization for social change and human services, founded by former President Vicente Fox of Mexico; The Conservation Fund for sustainability and resource protection; Habitat for Humanity.; Give India and Taj Public Welfare Trust for families of hospitality workers in India; and Partners in Health for Haiti relief.
